Cincinnati Bell Inc. Continues Transformation to Streamline Operations and Make it Easier to do Business isrameds.com
Cincinnati, Ohio - November 10, 2005 - Cincinnati Bell Inc. (NYSE:CBB) today announced two new partnerships that will allow the company to provide expanded customer service while at the same time continuing business transformation initiatives announced late last year.
CheckFreePay Now Accepts Cincinnati Bell Payments
Beginning Dec. 16, 2005, participating CheckFreePay locations will accept Cincinnati Bell customer payments in Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. CheckFreePay operates a network of more than 80 locations, including CheckSmart, Ohio Cash Advantage, IGA and United Check Cashing. A complete list of participating locations can be found at www.cincinnatibell.com.
Previously, customers wishing to make payments in person could only do so at the Cincinnati Bell office at Centennial Plaza in downtown Cincinnati. As a result of the new availability of multiple CheckFreePay payment locations around town, including two downtown Cincinnati locations and Dayton area locations, Cincinnati Bell will be closing its Centennial Plaza office on Jan. 14, 2006.
"CheckFreePay already accepts a number of other utility-type payments," said Ann Crable, senior vice president of operations at Cincinnati Bell. "By opening this new channel for our customers, they can now make multiple payments at one location rather than running all over town." CheckFreePay will charge customers a processing fee of $1.00 for each payment.
Directory Assistance Simplified, Enhanced Services on the Horizon
Cincinnati Bell has selected Excell Services to provide directory assistance and enhanced services for its customers beginning in January 2006. Based in Tempe, Ariz., Excell was selected due to economies of scale, sophisticated automation, state-of-the-art technology, overall cost savings and excellent customer service.
As part of the transition of directory assistance to Excell, Cincinnati Bell also recently announced it is simplifying the rate plans for directory assistance. Now all Ohio directory assistance inquiries will be charged at a flat rate of $1.25 per call and local calls will be completed free of charge. Previously, rates varied from $0.61 to $1.85 and call completion was an added charge of $0.35.
Additionally in January, Cincinnati Bell directory assistance callers can take advantage of Excell's enhanced services. From sports scores, to horoscopes to ATM locations, operators will offers callers a new level of knowledge and convenience. Directory assistance calls using enhanced services also will only cost a flat rate of $1.25 per call.
"Excell has an outstanding reputation for call quality and based on economies of scale, allows us to consider a more complete and competitive range of services for our customers," said Crable. "Because of Excell's state-of-the-art technology, we have the opportunity down the road to further enhance our directory offerings for our customers without the investment required for us to do the same in-house.
Today's announcements, along with several other smaller Cincinnati Bell initiatives, are expected to impact between 80 and 100 current Cincinnati Bell jobs. If not placed internally, employees in the affected jobs will receive severance and career job assistance under the labor contract or applicable company policy.
The changes are a part of the restructuring plan Cincinnati Bell announced in November 2004 designed to better align the company's cost structure. Continually looking for ways to streamline the business, Cincinnati Bell expects annual operating expense savings to be in the range of $20 million to $25 million.
